Tips on introducing your dog to a stuffed Kong for the first time

You want to create a Kong that’s challenging enough to keep your dog interested, but not so difficult that he or she gives up.

Set them up for an easy win by stuffing the KONG loosely with their favourite treats. Be sure the food is small enough that it will easily fall out as the dog plays

Our top choices are...

Chopped up JR pate - It's high value and the smell will keep the dog interested and keen to work out how to get to the tasty treat

Beef spaghetti - A top seller at SweetPea's and it breaks easily into small pieces or you can have them going all the way through the Kong.

SweetPea's recipe - Our kibble is tasty and irresistible and a great filler for your dogs Kong. If your dog gobbles their food then filling the Kong with their Sweetpea's recipe dinner will slow them down!

Once you have done this you want to seal the Kong with something wet and tasty. Examples of this is

  • Liver paste

  • Peanut butter

  • Wet dog food

  • Greek Yoghurt

  • Mashed banana

Clever dogs will figure out the best techniques to extract loosely-packed goodies so when your pup starts to make quick work of their Kong, it’s time to up your game.

To make your dogs Kong more challenging and long-lasting, stuff the toy with a mixture of wet and dry foods. The variety of textures keeps things interesting, as each bite is differently delicious.
