Scent work is an ever-growing popular activity for dogs that taps into their extraordinary sense of smell. We have learnt that dogs can apply their natural olfactory capabilities to locate individual and specific scents, this in turn will lead to a fulfilling experience for both the dog and their owners.
· Problem solving skills to build a dog’s confidence
It’s always fun to teach dogs new skills and scent work is a fun skill to learn and helps build a dog’s confidence. As a dog and their handler work together, successfully locating hidden scent articles they both experience a sense of triumph and accomplishment.
· Mental stimulation and enrichment
Dogs thrive on mental challenges and stimulation, and scent work is the perfect opportunity to provide dogs with a mentally engaging activity. When training and teach a dog to search for a specific scent they are called for focus, attention on the owner and to concentrate. The skills you and your dog learn during our scent work courses can be transferred to use at home or out and about on their normal walk. Scent work provides an outlet for excess energy, reducing problem behaviours and reduces boredom.
· Physical exercise
Scent work provides light physical exercise and will improve dogs’ fitness without strenuous effort. It is great for dogs with injuries, health concerns, older dogs or young pups that are on restricted exercise.. Scent work is accessible to any breed, age, or ability. We have had dogs as young as 4 months and as old as 13 years take part. We have also had a dog that is nearly deaf take part, it hasn’t prevented them taking part
· Building a bond between you and your dog
We believe scent work is a partnership between the dog and their owner. It reinforces and strengthens an owner and their dog’s bond. The owner must learn to read their dogs body language and how the dog communicates with them whilst working. It is really fascinating to watch the dogs learn to search and use their brains, working out what the owners are asking them to do
The fun part of scent work and our courses is re-enacting scenarios that professional working dogs do for our pet dogs. This includes vehicle searches, out buildings, bag searches like at the airport and so much more! We also run time trials, so dogs are against the clock to find a set number of scent articles. Warning! It can become quite competitive
Our Bronze & Silver UK Sniffer Dog Courses are run at Coombe Hill Farm Shop, GL19 4BH on a Tuesday and Wednesday evenings

8.30 - 9.15pm - 1-2-1 Scentwork lesson (45 minutes) with Instructor Lucy
Tuesday 17th February
7.15pm - 8.45pm - Introduction to Scentwork (one off workshop) - 4 spaces left
Sniffari session or a 1-2-1 lesson (or share with a friend) held at
SweetPea's HQ, rear of 25 High Street, Tewkesbury, GL20 5AT

UK Bronze Sniffer Dog
Held in our training barn at Coombe Hill Farm shop this course is ideal for dogs of all ages and breeds.
We welcome reactive or nervous dogs as the workshop location is specifically set up so each dog has their own space
